Awaking to a sense of our awful situation!
Towards the end of the Book of Mormon, after we learn about how the Nephite and Jaredite civilizations were destroyed by Secret Combinations, we are warned that they will be present among our governments. When we begin to realize this, we are warned that we must Awake to a sense of our awful situation! A bold statement. The purpose of this article is to assist you to Awake. You will read things in this article that will shock you, like a hard unexpected slap across the face. It is not my intention to scare, but to enlighten you.
Because of the nature of this article I want to preface it with a strong disclaimer. I am just like you - a normal every day guy bumbling his way through mortality. I have absolutely no authority to speak for or on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I unequivocally do not. The opinions and conclusions drawn or implied within this article are my own. As with anything I write, if the Church speaks out on this topic to the contrary - they are right and I am wrong. I am deeply troubled by those LDS members who question our leadership, whom I unequivocally support as prophets, seers, and revelators.
Furthermore, I acknowledge that there exists in human nature a syndrome referred to as "Confirmation Bias". It means that once a person believes a certain thing to be true it is easy to observe the world with tunnel vision - seeing only the things which support their ideas at the exclusion of all others. I readily admit and warn you from the beginning of this article that it is a possibility that this could have happened to me, and thus skewed the perceptions of this article. I therefore implore you to let the Holy Spirit be your guide in this and all things.
The Book of Mormon gives us the benefit of Mormon and Moroni’s 20/20 hindsight as they look back upon the reasons for the Nephite and Jaredite societal collapses. They were abridging 1,000 years of history when they compiled their abridgment. The items they chose were selected for a reason. They transcribed what they did because they were commanded to do so by the Lord. Therefore, reoccurring themes that appear in their works should be of particular interest to us. We were their intended audience. To this end, Ezra Taft Benson made the following comment regarding one of the important sub-themes in their compilation:
Moroni could have pointed out many factors that led to the destruction of the people, but notice how he singled out the secret combination. Just as the Church today could point out many threats to peace, prosperity, and the spread of God’s work, but it has singled out the greatest threat as the godless conspiracy. There is no conspiracy theory in the Book of Mormon —it is a conspiracy fact. (Civic Standards for the Faithful Saints – April 1972 GC)
The formation of this Secret Combination is first mentioned in the Book of Mormon in Helaman chapter 1. From there, it remains a sub-theme throughout the remainder of the book - Helaman chapters 1 through 3 Nephi chapter 7 are of particular note for their uncanny foreshadowing of latter-day events. This article will begin to scratch the surface of some of these similarities, particularly pertaining to those discussed in the second chapter of the book, A Remnant Shall Return called Ezra's Eagle.
Kishkumen and Gadianton formed their secret combination 86 years before the calamitous destruction happened in America that preceded the coming of Christ. It is therefore interesting to note that the embedded timetable for Ezra’s Eagle prophecy began 88 years ago with the identification of Hebert Hoover as the first President in a series who would lead the governance of this country – an interesting similarity. As explained in Ezra’s Eagle, I believe that Herbert Hoover was the first President identified by Ezra specifically because he represented the beginning of an era. He was one of the founding members of the Council on Foreign Relations, the group identified by Ezra Taft Benson in General Conference from the pulpit as being the latter-day equivalent to the Secret Combinations of old (he recommended members to read the book None Dare Call It a Conspiracy - see Ezra's Eagle for details). This period of time in the Book of Mormon, and the Prophecy of Ezra’s Eagle therefore become linked at this stage as the point both Secret Combinations get their foothold in America, both Anciently and in modern times.
Another eerie linkage between Ezra’s Eagle and the Book of Mormon is the number of American leaders whose terms were cut short during these two corresponding time periods due to the direct intervention of the Secret Combination, that is to say the period of time between the formation of the secret combination and the subsequent destruction of the American governments. In Ezra’s vision there are six short feathers, or would-be Presidents, who’s governance is terminated through the direct intervention of these Secret Combinations before the government is destroyed. Remarkably it is exactly the same in the Book of Mormon! Six Chief Judges – the Nephite Presidential equivalent, were either killed, or forced to resign because of the wickedness of the secret combinations. Furthermore, after the death of the 6th man, in both cases a powerful anti-Christ is introduced in America that destroys faith and who is subsequently personally destroyed by Jesus Christ for their wickedness by being burned alive with fire! My comparison goes as follows:

When I discovered this correlation I was shocked at the uncanny similarity between these two periods of time. It seems that just as Isaiah’s prophetic accounts of the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities were dualistic in nature to both ancient and modern times, the Book of Mormon is equally dualistic in nature – particularly during this timeframe! It should be noted that both anciently and in modern times there was also one leader who died in office in each of these groups that was unrelated to the Secret Combinations that were plotting to over through the people - This was FDR who died in office of a stroke during his 4th term in office, and Pacumeni (Helman 1:13-14;21), who was killed when the Laminate conquered the City of Zarahemla, rather than at the had of the Secret Combination.
These first two correlations are fascinating, but are just the beginning of the correlative events that transpired during these comparative periods of time. For example, the impetus of the Gadianton robbers formation was the loss of a hotly contested election cycle described in Helaman chapter 1, wherein the losers of the election plot against the winner and kill him – sound familiar? The clandestine nature of this group's slow and deliberate infiltration of the government is another parallel. Eight years after the formal creation of this secret band, Mormon makes the following interesting commentary regarding the status of this early American Secret Combination.
And it came to pass in the forty and ninth year of the reign of the judges, there was continual peace established in the land, all save it were the secret combinations which Gadianton the robber had established in the more settled parts of the land, which at that time were not known unto those who were at the head of government… (Helaman 3:23)
For eight years this group was planning, scheming and positioning itself among the influential branches of Nephite government, and as of yet had not come to the attention of the average citizen. Perhaps there were rumors beginning to circulate among some of the people regarding the suspicion of such a group, but given modern events, it is not hard to image such people being marginalized as “conspiracy theorists”.
During the first years of this organization's founding, secrecy appeared to be of primal importance to the group’s obtaining its foothold. Had the Nephites known what was happening to their government, right under their noses, they would have put an end to it like they did with the Kingmen in the Book of Alma. It appears that such is also the case in these latter-days. Consider the following well known quote from the late David Rockefeller, long time defacto leader of the CFR, speaking on the council’s behalf regarding this very topic:
We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years... It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supernational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries.
Secrecy was a vital requirement in the initial stages, but only until the organization's maturity. There would come a point that mere knowledge of the existence of the organization no longer mattered. Consider another one of Mormon’s observations, this time 28 years down the road from the formation of this secret group. Doubtless there were likely still some in their society that were oblivious of the group’s existence, or refused to believe that such an organization could exist amongst their leaders. The same is true for us today. Mormon’s observation was as follows:
And thus they [the secret combinations] did obtain the sole management of the government, insomuch that they did trample under their feet and smite and rend and turn their backs upon the poor and the meek, and the humble followers of God. And thus we see that they were in an awful state, and ripening for an everlasting destruction. (Helaman 6:39-40)
It appears that after 28 years of the beginning of this ancient American time-table, their secret combination had achieved its primary objective – sole management of the government. I believe that it took our latter-day peer conspiracy group approximately 34 years to accomplish the same objective. Their hold was solidified with the assassination of JFK – Ezra’s first short feather. Why was he assassinated? From public speeches that JFK gave, it was clear that he was both aware of the presence of this secret society embedded within the government structure that he was suppose to be leading and was opposed to their agenda. The President is suppose to be the most powerful man in the world, but when JFK had the audacity to question foreign policy, and even worse act unilaterally to change it, he became a threat to be eliminated. The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings… For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.

This latter-day monstrosity would solidify its strangle hold upon the throat of American politics through the assassination of JFK - a good man clothed in weakness.
In reading the Book of Mormon’s account, and of what I know of our modern version, one of the things that stands out to me about this secret organization is its patience and long-term vision. Their infiltration of the government was slow and deliberate. Given the nature of the Book of Mormon, we do not fully understand how the bureaucratic and political aspects of their society functioned, but complete subversion is only made possible by infiltrating both. This does not mean that everyone that worked for or in the government was of necessity part of the master plan. In fact, with the right people in the right places this could be accomplished with relatively few people. Only those that held sufficient control and influence, along with obvious backup candidates to ensure continuity, would be required to stifle dissenting voices and to guide public, economic, and foreign policy.
This is especially so in our day when our elected officials do not write the convoluted laws they vote into effect, but instead outsource their constitutional obligations to faceless, nameless, unaccountable, unelected bureaucrats and special interest groups. I once personally wrote a law myself, made a contribution to a re-election campaign and had the law passed at the state level. I was shocked and sickened by how the processes worked- politicians for hire. Most politicians vote how their contributors want them to, i.e. how they are paid to. Thus we see that America has outsourced its governance to a vipers nest of special interest groups and bureaucratic scoundrels that in reality rule it.
Thus the country can experience near financial collapse due to fraudulent sub-prime mortgage practices at hands of greedy men who literally evaporate trillions of dollars of the American's people without being held accountable. It was true anciently, and its true today.For evidence of this fact consider the case of the ancient American judges who would put innocent men to death and were accused by the people of their crimes but suffered no consequences for their actions.
Now it came to pass that they [the guilty judges] were taken and brought up before the judge, to be judged of the crime which they had done, according to the law which had been given by the people. Now it came to pass that those judges had many friends… Therefore they did combine against the people of the Lord, and enter into a covenant to destroy them, and to deliver those who were guilty of murder from the grasp of justice, which was about to be administered according to the law. (3 Nephi 6:29)
These practices, although ancient, have been played out again and again in our day. Think of the many independent congressional commissions what were anything but independent. Or the numerous politicians that go to Washington as “normal" people and leave it with incomprehensible wealth that cannot be reconciled with their congressional salaries. Or politicians accused of crimes that would send the average citizen to jail, but result in nothing more that the proverbial slap on the wrist. Yes, these organizations are with us in full force today.
Now, to point out another parallel of a different nature. Not only were the timelines in question associated with the rise of secret combinations, but also with unprecedented growth in the church over a 50 year span of time. Anciently it included the miraculous conversion of the Lamanites in Helaman chapter 5 - the most spectacular conversion account in all recorded history, and ended with amazing success among the Nephites as well. Consider the following passages which took place during this time frame anciently:
And it came to pass that in this same year there was exceedingly great prosperity in the church, insomuch that there were thousands who did join themselves unto the church and were baptized unto repentance. And so great was the prosperity of the church, and so many the blessings which were poured out upon the people, that even the high priests and the teachers were themselves astonished beyond measure. (Helaman 3:24-25)
By the end of this diametric period in ancient American history, Mormon would make the following commentary regarding the Nephite nation:
And now behold, there was not a living soul among all the people of the Nephites who did doubt in the least the words of all the holy prophets who had spoken; for they knew that it must needs be that they must be fulfilled. (3 Nephi 5:1)
This last passage came after the horrific trial wherein the Nephite were able to temporarily defeat the Secret Combinations of their day, more on this event to come. But first, back to the miraculous growth in the church during this diametric time period. This great process of conversion began anciently in America 64 years before the apocalyptic destruction occurred which preceded Christ’s coming. If we look at Latter-day church membership over the same corresponding time period we will see that the exact same explosive growth has already take place among us. In 1953 church membership totaled a mere 1.2 million world-wide, most of which lived in Utah. However, over the same equivalent time period discussed, the church's membership soared by 975%! Another amazing correlation.
However, despite this period of explosive growth amongst the ancient American inhabitants, for one reason or another, there began to arise a spiritual disconnect among the grandchildren of these converts. Mormon explains this phenomenon as follows:
And there was also a cause of much sorrow among the Lamanites; for behold, they had many children who did grow up and began to wax strong in years, that they became for themselves, and were led away… and began to decrease as to their faith and righteousness, because of the wickedness of the rising generation. (3 Nephi 1:29-30)
There is no doubt that Secret Combinations intentionally strive to manipulate society's perceptions of right and wrong. I believe this influence played a major role in the rising generation to forsake the faith of their fathers. They exchange the "old ways" for the new enlightened thinking of a new age. The same has unfortunately been the case among the youth of the Church in the latter days as well. After the explosive growth that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints experienced in the early portion of this timeframe, the brakes have been thrown and growth has now declined to its lowest rate since the 1920’s, and this despite the church having more missionaries than anytime in its history. Once again, its the grandchildren of the faithful generation that is putting off the faith of their fathers.
I recently attended a Stake Priesthood training meeting where our stake president pleaded with us to pray for the youth of the rising generation because they just are not as receptive to spiritual things as their fathers were, both within and without of the church. He went on to share statics showing that over 90% of the families in our stake had been sealed in the temple, a reflection of the commitment of their fathers, but that less than 20% of eligible young men in the stake were serving, or planning on serving missions. Why is this happening to the rising generation? As I have thought about this I attribute it to the environment they have been raised in. They have been raised in a generation of political correctness.
Political correctness is nothing more than a tool to force the masses to think and act in a predetermined way. It is Satanic in its very nature. It seeks the forced conversion of the hearts and minds of the populace to the secret ambitions of an elite ruling class. Political correctness forces idealogical conversion in the same way ISIS enforces its version of Islam, by leveraging fear: fear of public shaming, fear of economic loss, fear of social stigmas, and in its fully mature manifestations, fear for ones personal safety.
The Nazi's usage of political correctness to subjugate the voice and mind of the populace to the rhetoric and will of the ruling elite is a terrifying example of the effectiveness of this brainwashing tool. When the Nazi's first publicly and socially condemned the Jewish people, the majority of Germans were privately appalled by the horror of such actions, and many remained so throughout the war. However, by design, the ruling elite saw to it that those who publicly opposed their views were quickly and harshly dealt with. They were ostracized both socially and economically and made public examples of ridicule and backwards thinking. The fear of reprisal had an immediate effect, it forced the older generation to remain silent, thereby creating a false narrative of public acceptance with which the rising generation was brainwashed.
In the same way, the Secret Combinations of our day have ushered in a host of abhorrent practices into the common square against the will of the people. Anyone with the audacity to stand up and call a spade a spade is viscerally destroyed in a Nazi-like manner. While many of our older generation still silently see that "the Emperor has no clothes on", many in the rising generation are blind to this fact. Therefore, in today's society, the midst of darkness have been skillfully crafted by Secret Combinations and are reinforced by their "astroturffing" influence within the 24 hour news channels, social media, and the music, and entertainment industries to such a degree that many have become totally blinded by them. The forces of political correctness are so powerful, so omnipresent that they are reshaping the core values of our society at incredible speed. One example of this incredible change is the the concept of gender fluidity. Boys can be girls, girls can be boys, and both can be neither. Such a ridiculous concept that flies the the face of nature itself would never have gained footing in the 1950's. Thanks to the reprogramming of political correctness, such radical thinking it is quickly becoming the mainstream thought process. In such a society as this, shall the youth of Zion falter? Pray for them!
Another parallel between these two time periods is the presence of horrific wars, bloodsheds, and destructions that were the direct result of Secret Combinations. Consider the following passage from Mormon’s abridgement of the account:
And now it came to pass… that there were wars throughout all the land among all the people of Nephi. And it was this secret band of robbers who did carry on this work of destruction and wickedness. Helaman 11:2
Because of the nature of Secret Combinations, I know that this must be as true today as it was yesteryear. However, elaborating upon this subject becomes very sticky very quickly. By their very nature, Secret Societies work in secret, therefore traditional evidence is hard to come by. For this section I will strive to stick to generalities, and again remind the reader of the inherent tendency for confirmation bias. Consider this a working theory, not fact. The time will come when we know all things, but it is not yet, therefore let the Holy Ghost be your guide.
Since the day our country was infiltrated by latter-day Gadiantons, our history has had a pattern of unusual wars. Wars that appeared to have been fought, but never won. If this observation is indeed true, it begs the following question: Who profits under such conditions? The only people that profit from war are those in the war business. Make no mistake, war is SERIOUS business. Worldwide military spending dwarfs all other industries. Therefore, would it surprise you to someday learn that many of the global conflicts facing us today have been engineered by the designs of these Secret Combinations, just as they were anciently?
In President Eisenhower's farewell address, he saw a terrible danger rising in America, and warned us about it. Consider his words:
Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of ploughshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions.... In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist.
In light of such a warning, and with the knowledge that Secret Combinations have infiltrated our society, the doors open to many horrific possibilities. Such a suggestion causes me to squirm when I ponder upon some of the strange events surrounding 9/11. I am a CPA by trade, therefore I found it highly suspicious when on September 10, 2001, the Pentagon announced to the world that they could not account for two point three trillion dollars in transactions, 2.3 TRILLION! This is the equivalent of loosing all documentation for every transaction of the entire French economy! It does not compute. There was no explanation of missing hardware, or of software malfunctions - just the unidentified consumption of 2.3 million by the US military industrial complex.
Then, imagine my shock and amazement when the next day a hijacked commercial airliner crashed into the pentagon, after performing a corkscrew turn that some experts consider to be have been impossible to perform without automated assistance. Then consider the horrible odds of this plane then coincidentally crashing into the Pentagon’s accounting and budgeting department, completely destroying it. In addition to this crazy string of events, this plane crash then leaves less debris than any other airplane crash of equivalent size in reported history. Furthermore, despite this being the Pentagon, the headquarters of the most powerful military building in the world, no clear images or video footage of this plane’s approach are ever released. I do not want to sound conspiratorial, but particularly in light of Eisenhower's warning, this is very strange. I have been able to reconcile this in my mind, and I reconcile things for a living.
Equally troubling to me is trying to explain how the two planes that hit the twin towers could justify their total collapse at near free-fall speeds. Particularly when both towers collapsed inwardly, from the top down through the path of greatest resistance, i.e. the 100+ undamaged floors beneath them. I can’t explain this. Nor can I explain the collapse of WTC #7 when it suffered only minor damage in comparison. There have only been three steel structured building in recorded history to suffer total collapses because of fires, all three of them happened on 9/11. These are not popular questions to ask, and I will likely never receive satisfactory answers to them.
It has become taboo to discuss these things in public. BUT let me be perfectly clear here. I am not saying that I believe that the US Government was behind 9/11. That is a preposterous idea. The questions I ask myself are wether or not there could be wicked and evil men masquerading as sheep among our government, that in reality are ravenous wolves. I believe the obvious answer is yes. Anything is possible, so the question becomes why? What is to be gained by such a massive attack and cover up? Motive is easy enough to establish in the case of the Pentagon, but what about NYC? When considering this, I can't help but reflect upon a warning in JFK’s previously reference speech:
There is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. "There is a very grave danger" - what a sobering phrase. It implies that JKF knew with certainty that such calculated threats could arise from powerful secret organizations that of necessity would have had to have embedded themselves, like parasites, into the living host of the US Governmental apparatus. Could such a group bring about the intentional engineering of an event to expanded its power? How else are we to interpret the phase “seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits”? This haunts me when it comes to 9/11.
This is particularly true when it comes to the legislation that was immediately put forward and passed into law as the result of 9/11’s tragic loss known as the Patriot Act. This bill is literally hundreds of pages long and covers extremely complex issues. There is no other logical explanation that to believe that this document had been prepared in advance of these events, and was launched upon the public at this time of great sorrow and shock for a predetermined purpose. Under what other circumstances do you suppose that such incredible powers would have been granted to the military industrial complex? This bill permits the indefinite imprisonment of anyone with the mere suggestion of a link to terrorism. Under the Patriot act there is no requirement of evidence, no trials or personal representation. What constitutes terrorism? The potential for abuse is obvious. Could this opportunity really have been manufactured? Furthermore, this bill provided the path forward for creating a massive surveillance state. Given the scope and depth of all of our electronic footprints, what secrets do any of us truly suppose that we have? Because of such footprints, countries can now implement systems of social credits, where rights are given or taken away based upon compliance with predetermined norms. The potential for abuse is incredible!
Eventually, the ancient Gadiantons were no longer in the shadows. Society became painfully aware of their presence. This public awareness rallied the people to appoint a man to the governance of their country who was not part of this wicked organization. A man who stood in opposition to their scheming. This action resulted in a period of great polarization in their society. People rallied to the one side or the other. Conflicts were common place. Eventually, the people who supported the continuation of the government designed by their foundering father – King Mossiah, gathered together to resist the evil that opposed them. As a result of the people’s concerted efforts the chains of this secret band were put off – albeit only temporarily.
The similarities between their situation and current day are obvious. The 2016 election was historic for many reasons, not least of which being the fact that it was the most polarizing in memory. The first candidate being the darling of the establishment, having been groomed and anointed by unholy hands to reign. This candidate was a Washington insider, who is rumored to have sold the influence of office to accumulate literally hundreds of millions of dollars in personal wealth in tax-sheltered foundations. I use the term rumored because to this day, no serious inquiry has been made into any alleged acts of malfeasance. The same was true for the American judges of antiquity. The other candidate was openly opposed by Washington insiders and the sitting establishment. Prior to his victory, he had never spent a day in public service, a first for a US President. He rose to victory on a wave of populism, promising to put the needs of Americans before the needs of America’s politicians and special interest groups. From the first day of his Presidency, whatever else Trump has been, he has been an enemy of the establishment.
His inaugural address echoed his position when he unequivocally stated the following:
We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people… Today’s ceremony, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.
For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land. That all changes – starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.
Since being elected as the President, he has opposed the Globalist agenda on every side and has suffered an unyielding backlash of vehement reprisal. Talk of assassination and impeachment began immediately. If real and substantiated controversy could not be found, it was created and presented as truth. The 24 hour news media eviscerates the President and his agenda incessantly. The same biased polls that once told us he could not win, now tell us how awful he is supposed to be. His administration has been under attack from without and within. It is unprecedented in US history. So much so that a National Security Council Memorandum was written upon the subject by Rich Higgins. This memo was recently made public after Mr. Higgins was fired for having had the audacity to write it. The following is an extract from it.
The Trump administration is suffering under withering information campaigns designed to first undermine, then delegitimize and ultimately remove the President… This is not politics as usual but rather political warfare at an unprecedented level that is openly engaged in the direct targeting of a seated president through manipulation of the news cycle… These attack narratives are pervasive, full spectrum and institutionalized at all levels. They operate in social media, television, the 24-hour news cycle in all media, and are entrenched at the upper levels of the bureaucracies and within the foreign policy establishment. They inform the entertainment industry from late night monologues, to situation comedies, to television series memes, to movie themes.
Attacks on President Trump are not just about destroying him, but also about destroying the vision of America that lead to his election. Those individuals and groups seeking the destruction of President Trump actually seek to suffocate the vision of America that made him president. Hence, the end state is not just a delegitimized, destabilized, immobilized and possibly destroyed presidency; but also a demoralized movement composed of a large enough bloc to elect a president that subsequently becomes self-aware of its own disenfranchisement. Despite what you may think of Trump, he is no friend of the latter-day Gadianton empire. They want him gone - he was never suppose to win in the first place!. He is as much a threat to them today, as Lachoneaus was to the Gadianton Robbers of old. Like with King Nebuchadnezzar of Babaloyn, with whom President Trump shares many attributes, the Lord has a history of using profoundly flawed men to carry out His work. I therefore pray for President Trump, but I am afraid it is without much faith for I see the reality of the prophecies of Ezra’s Eagle clearer now than ever before. Any hard fought gains that Trump manages to claw out will be short lived, just like those won by Lachoneaus against the Gadiantons. According to 3rd Nephi, within 8 years of reclaiming their right to govern themselves under Lachoneaus, the Gadiantons murdered the Nephite “President” and completely overthrew the Nephite’s entire system of governance.
This incredible feat was made possible predominantly at the hands of one powerful anti-christ named Jacob. So convincing was this anti-Christ that Nephite Christianity all but collapsed. Consider this verse accounting for the state of affairs among the Nephites between the five year period of time between AD 21 and AD 26 after their short-lived defeat of the robbers.
And now behold there was not a living soul among all the people of the Nephites who did doubt in the least the words of all the holy prophets who had spoken; for they knew… (3 Nephi 5:1)
Now consider the following statement which occurred just 3 years latter due to the resurgence of the Gadiantons and the rise of Jacob the anti-Christ.
And the regulations of the government were destroyed, because of the secret combination of the friends and kindreds of those who murdered the prophets. And they did cause a great contention in the land, insomuch that the more righteous part of the people had nearly all become wicked; yea, there were but few righteous men among them [a total collapse of faith in just a few years!].
And thus six years had not passed away since the more part of the people had turned from their righteousness, like the dog to his vomit, or like the sow to her wallowing in the mire. Now this secret combination, which had brought so great iniquity upon the people, did gather themselves together, and did place at their head a man whom they did call Jacob. (3 Nephi 7:6-9)
This passage is astounding. Within just six-years both Christianity and the government of the Nephites experienced wholesale collapse under the hands of the secret combination and leadership of Jacob the anti-Christ. Again the events of the past illuminate the path of the future, for according to the prophetic account Christianity and the US Government will also all but collapse prior to the Lord’s coming and the destructive events which will precede it. The collapse of the US Government will come at the hands of a secret combination as described in Ezra’s Eagle and the collapse of Christianity will come at the hands of the powerful latter-day anti-Christ described as The Stout Horn.
I do not believe these parallels are happenstance or coincidental- there are too many of them for that to be possible. The more likely scenario is that the Book of Mormon was meant to serve as a template for our day. If you marginalize this great book, you do it at your own peril. It is whispering to us from out of the dust. Can you hear the urgency of its message? I love this book!
Moroni went to great lengths to underline this theme for us. Consider his words:
Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be.
Wherefore, the Lord commandeth YOU, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.
For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies; even that same liar who beguiled our first parents, yea, even that same liar who hath caused man to commit murder from the beginning; who hath hardened the hearts of men that they have murdered the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out from the beginning.
Wherefore, I, Moroni, am commanded to write these things that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men, but that they may be persuaded to do good continually, that they may come unto the fountain of all righteousness and be saved. (Ether 8:23-26)
These words are powerful. Note that Moroni does not ask that we rally against these Secret Combinations. He saw that by the time we became are of their presence it would already be too late for us to be able to put them off. They will destroy anything or anyone that stands in their way. Things are too far gone for us to hope to reclaim our country through democratic elections, or any other way. We are overpowered, and are left to contemplate the awfulness of our situation. But we are not forsaken. The Lord knows the beginning from the end. He will put an end to these Secret Combinations if we but trust in Him. Consider the following passage:
Wherefore, for this cause, that my covenants may be fulfilled which I have made unto the children of men, that I will do unto them while they are in the flesh, I must needs destroy the secret works of darkness, and of murders, and of abominations. For he that raiseth up a king against me shall perish, for I, the Lord, the king of heaven, will be their king, and I will be a light unto them forever, that hear my words. 2 Nephi 10:15&14
The battle is the Lord's and He will be victorious. What then must we do. The first thing, already noted, is to awaken to the awfulness of our situation. Why is this the commandment that the Lord had Moroni give to us out of all those he could have given? I think that it was because if we recognize our situation for what it truly is, we will understand that we can only find deliverance in the Lord. He alone is mighty to save. This recognition should cause us to humble ourselves and to look to the Lord. It should prompt us to get our lives in order - to repent and turn unto Him. Thus we have our last parallel between our days and the days of the Nephites. Consider this verse that describes why those that survived the cataclysmic events preceding the Lord's coming in their day.
Yea, they did cry: Hosanna to the Most High God. And they did cry: Blessed be the name of the Lord God Almighty, the Most High God. And their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears, because of the great goodness of God in delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; and they knew it was because of their repentance and their humility that they had been delivered from an everlasting destruction. 3 Nephi 4:32-33
The common thread among the surviving Nephites was that they awoke to a profound sense of their awfulness of their situation. They realized that this secret society was too entrenched for them to defeat, they were totally and utterly dependent upon the Lord. This dependence caused them to humble themselves and to repent of their sins. This is what saved them. Therefore, as you ponder on what you can do to prepare yourself, above all, this is what I am doing:
- Opening my eyes to what is really going on around me and the awful situation our society is in, and help others to do the same –I WILL AWAKE MYSELF AND OTHERS.
- Acknowledge my absolute dependence upon the Lord. It is the Lord who is mighty to save, not me, therefore, if I am to survive the coming events I must HUMBLE MYSELF.
- I must REPENT OF AND FORESAKE MY SINS.
